The Sony Xperia XZ3 is here and it boasts a gorgeous OLED display – the first in a Sony smartphone. As for the rest, it’s a refinement of the new design Sony established with the Xperia XZ2, which was unveiled barely six months ago. There are some intriguing highlights, but does the XZ3 offer enough to command a premium price tag and wrestle back some market share for Sony? Let’s take a closer look.

Coming to specifications, the Sony Xperia XZ3 runs on Android Pie, and will be available in both single-SIM (Nano) and dual-SIM (Nano) models, depending on the region. It sports a 6-inch QHD+ (1440×2880) HDR OLED Triluminos display with 18:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and is powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. Inbuilt storage is at 64GB with the options to expand further using a microSD card (up to 512GB).

The Sony Xperia XZ3 sports a 19-megapixel 1/ 2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor with f/2.0 aperture, predictive hybrid autofocus, 960fps super slow motion video (FHD/HD), predictive capture (motion / smile), autofocus burst, x8 Digital Zoom (photo and video), HDR Photo, 4K HDR Movie recording, anti-distortion shutter, triple image-sensing technology, SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode (5-axis stablisation), and Smart Launch that opens the camera when held horizontally. There’s a 13-megapixel 1/ 3.06-inch Exmor RS sensor with a 23mm wide angle lens that incorporates AI to offer bokeh and beauty effects.

The smartphone packs a 3,330mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, and Smart Stamina mode. It is IP65/68 certified for water and dust resistance, weighs 193 grams, and has 158×73 x9.9mm dimensions. Connectivity options include A-GNSS (GPS + GLONASS), Wi-Fi Miracast, Bluetooth v5, Google Cast, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The HTC U12 Life is equipped with sound enhancing technologies like High-Resolution Audio and LDAC.

The smartphone will be made available in selected markets globally from end of September and will be among the first devices to ship with the latest Android 9 Pie. It will be available in Black, White Silver, Forest Green, and Bordeaux Red colour options, however colour options may vary depending upon region. It has a dedicated shutter button, alongside the power and volume buttons, all situated on the right edge of the smartphone. The Sony Xperia XZ3 has a rear fingerprint sensor situated right in the centre. Design-wise, as mentioned, it has little to no difference from its predecessor.
